Odd network traffic

Every 5 minutes, my Echo does DNS lookups for special reserved domain names that should never be used: www.example.net, www.example.org, and www.example.com. Anybody know why?

I've heard this before.  While I don't ave any inside info, I'm betting it's just a way of periodically testing internet availability.
