i would like to know which, if any, headphones are compatible with alexa or if any may be compatible with future upgrades. thanks

Any standard headphone I can plug into iThings and similar devices audio out will work in either my Dot or my Tap.  Echo has no audio out.

If they are Blue tooth capable they will work as well.
