Is there anyway to have the echo run media center? I want to say alex turn on plex (netflix) and have it open plex (netflix) on my media server.

It's actually not too difficult to have the echo load apps on a computer if you don't mind running a webserver in your house. I have mine setup so I can say "Alexa, tell Jarvis to start XBMC" .. and my app, Jarvis, will fire up XBMC on the TV. It's trivial to start any application this way.

Thank you Matt for proving me wrong!  I figured someone would, but not so soon!
I watched your video demo and read your post. It's all very impressive.

Too bad the solution is not for the average Echo user.  Maybe someday soon it can be.

Keep up your good work, and keep us posted on your progress.

If you have a harmony hub you can actually accomplish this fairly easily too. I've created a virtual switch on SmartThings to fire off pretty complicated Harmony Activities and it works fairly well, and with that method you can use the built in "turn on" functions of Alexa. For example, I can say "Alexa, turn on Netflix" and it will power on TV, Receiver, PS3 and then navigate to Netflix/Plex.

Is Jarvis a skill you created and hosting locally?

Cheers,
Alex

HI Matt, Do you have a new link as the forum one is broken.

Here it is, but their new forums ruined the formatting (makes it hard to read):
