Every once in a while our Dot will just say a few words out of clear blue.
Sometimes when it is dead quite but usually when there is normal life going on, she will speak a few words.

One time a buddy was here who is the poster child of web paranoia, he was setting next to the Echo reading when it just blurted out something - you could almost see his skin crawl.

This month alone, on two occasions, I was watching PBS on Tv & a news story came on.
The Dot suddenly began playing a NPR version of the same story.
No wake sound (Alexa), it just began yacking out of clear blue. 
Alexa couldn't figure out I wanted it to stop reading us the NPR report so I unplugged it

Isn't this device supposed to sleep until someone call out the wake word?

Yes it is, but it is not perfect (even less so the past year or so.) So, re position it from near a wall if too close, write a complaint letter to Amazon, but most of all, get used to it!
