https://venturebeat.com/2017/05/15/following-snl-parody-amazon-adds-cloud-verification-of-alexa-wake-word/

Amazon development announced two days ago (5/15) that Alexa products will now perform cloud-based verification of the wake word to make sure that the wake word was actually spoken. What this means to most people is that words that sound like "Alexa" should no longer trigger their device. It should also eliminate those those middle-of-the-night "Sorry, I didn't catch that, please try again" responses.

I'm uncertain if the update is already in place or will be coming soon.

Yeah, I already posted this noting I wish Amazon would work on it's own Alexa word verification before
it started helping 3rd party devices with the issue.

Echo can pipe up when unexpected too!  It's done it quite a bit lately.  Our master bathroom (en-suite) Dot is just 20+ feet from the master bedroom Dot.  I could use the bedroom Dot from the bathroom but there is the issue of having to turn it up and talk radio playing in the bathroom, water running, etc plus my back to the bedrm Dot so it just made sense to get one for the bathrm.  They would both pipe up when I said Alexa so I changed one to Echo.  Now with a GH, I'm doing the "Alexa, uh Echo, no Hey Google" thing :o
