Is this possible: Alexa announcements?

Wondering if Alexa can make announcements?
Eg. If a family member is on the way home, Can Alexa announce that?
Looked at building an apple with IFTTT. But no luck. Most of the skills seem to require a command. So are such announcements possible?
How would I go about?

not yet but I have read that it is in the works.

they way i currently do it is with smartthings. so presence sensor arrives home, it then announces it using one of my connected speakers.

would be much better to have alexa announce it
