Interesting question. I have the Kindle Fire HD 7 from 2013 which is great. It has the Alexa app on it, but I can't do calling and messaging with the app.  Maybe the HD 8 has the upgraded app with the ability to call and message on it.  You can ask that question on Amazon.com and likely get the answer.

I just read through the questions and answers on Amazon.com concerning the Fire HD 8, and no it does not have calling messaging for Alexa.
