I stumbled on this one which is in a kickstarter right now.
You basically snap in things from nightlights to a Camera even hints at an Alexa expansion module (not just a BT speaker).
Swidget currently have 4 wireless protocols onboard it looks like and possibly more to come.

Looked at it. At least they have reach their goal. Not interested though. The BT speaker audio quality must suck though. Putting a tiny speaker in there. I don't get it. LOL.

Ya I don't see sound quality being very good.(at least not better then my phones)
However I don't think they were originally intended for playing music.
There are some cool snap ins like the motion sensor, carbon monoxide sensor, Wi-Fi repeater and  video camera.
I don't need any of these right now but will be watching for additional snap ins and may consider adding a few of these outlets.
