Echo Plus and TRÅDFRI

I took a punt on a Ikea TRÅDFRI light bulb over the weekend knowing my Echo Plus was on its way.

Now I have my Echo Plus it is working fine but it cant discover the Ikea bulb. The bulb says ZigBee on the box but just will not connect.

Any ideas? I don't have an Ikea hub. My Hue bulbs are working fine.

Snap, same issue here. The hub is only £25 but does defeat the object of the Echo Plus. The Ikea lights are half the price of almost anything out there so I'd be keen to get this working without the hub (and it might in time, if its a matter of support) but given the number of bulbs I intend to buy, £25 for the hub will pay for itself in no time and as its USB powered I can put it anywhere.

Echo Dot work fine with the TRÅDFRI hub to control the light bulbs and it would be good to know if Echo Plus work with TRÅDFRI light bulbs especially the Echo plus is on sale for £109.99 at the moment.
