Echo Show Newbie Questions (UK)
« on: December 25, 2017, 04:24:38 pm »
Hi all

I’ve just set up my new Echo Show today (I live in the UK) and just had a couple of queries. If anyone could shed any light it would be much appreciated!

Is there any kind of timescale for when Amazon are looking to bring the ability to make calls to UK mobiles/landlines in? From what I understand it’s just currently available to those with an Echo device or the Alexa app.

I also have a Fire TV stick, I’ve seen online that it’s possible to link your Echo Show to it to search for things on Netflix and whatnot. I’ve tried looking for the stick through the Music and Books tab on the Alexa app and there’s no option for Video. Is this just a US feature currently? Everything is logged in using the same Amazon account, when I ask Alexa on the show to play shows through YouTube it tells me to make sure I’m set up through the service provider on the phone app.

Any information would be very much appreciated!

Cheers

Jacob

Perhaps you missed the news recently. Google (YouTube) and Amazon are having a spat. There is no YouTube on the Amazon Show because of this. And you won't see Google Home devices on Amazon.

Echo Show can only search Amazon Video. There is no integration with Netflix or any other provider. It is possible that this will be forthcoming since the Show is basically like any other Android device. It all depends on if/when Amazon and Netflix decide to work together on this.

As for new features (or existing features that are not yet available in a particular geographic area), Amazon has never ever stated a timeline. And in most cases, Amazon has never even stated that a feature will be added at all even if it's already available in the US.
