New user here, and so far i'm not getting much use. I would appreciate a thread of people's favorite and useful things Echo does for you. Please list your favorite commands and entertainment applications for this interesting device.

Mostly I want iheart radio stations by command but unfortunately Alexa cannot seem to separate station call letters and instead tries to pronounce them. For example "Alexa, open 105 FM WMAL"
Response "I could not find station 105 FM WM .... AL" I even downloaded the skill but she still says the word "AL"

You are asking Alexa incorrectly. On my first try, I just said "Alexa, play 105.9 WMAL FM" and she played it instantly.
When you use the word "open" it is assumed that you are opening a skill. Playing a station from iHeartRadio does not require a skill. It's already built-in. When you say "105 FM" there is no station at 105 FM anywhere in the US. WMAL is actually on 105.9 FM.

My favourite things are:
Alexa put an appointment in my calendar.
Alexa play Fire and Fury on my Kindle. (She reads okay, but a bit too fast to absorb so Audible is better).
Alexa what is the weather?
Alexa play geo quiz (have to enable this skill).
Alexa play Jeopardy (have to enable skill).
Alexa play Michael Buble, Alexa play Leonard Cohen, Alexa play lullabies, etc.
Alexa play CKNW 980 on tunein.
Alexa set a sleep timer for one hour (I do this when listening to Alexa in bed and she shuts off in one hour).
Alexa find a recipe for tzatsiki.
Alexa set a reminder, Alexa set an alarm.

When I get up for the day, I have my Echo DOT 2 play my Flash Briefings which last for about an hour.  For the rest of the day.....
Set alarms
Set reminders
Set sleep timer (1 hour) as I listen to my favorite talk radio station at bedtime.
Listen to "thunderstorm & rain" sounds.
Listen to talk radio from around the world.
Play music from iTunes
Ask it stupid questions
Traffic info if I am traveling by car
Airline info if flying
Find out what's on tv

Probably many other things which I am having a senior moment now.  Maybe I should ask "Echo."

live rainbow in a room for holidays/occasions
shopping list
turn on/off lights
80s hits tune in
timer
weather
last night for fart sounds, LOOOOOOOOOOOOL.
