Calling UK telephone and mobile phone numbers

Just recently purchased Amazon Echo 2, but there does not appear to be a facility to telephone  UK landline and  mobile numbers

There was recent ad on UK TV which showed a guy phoning his Father for help re a water leak, this implied that UK phone calls were possible ?

In the UK you can only call other Echos, Dots etc and people that have the Alexa app on their smartphone.

Today its only Alexa to Alexa.  So you can even do Alexa app on phone to an Alexa device.  In the new year Amazon brings out a £35 device that links to your landline.  You will then be able to call any landline using your Alexa device.
