just received my Echo.

I had been talking to Alexa with a friends model. may friend just told me yesterday that she got a popup to pay for a years use.....not sure what she wanted to do. is there a charge to use Echo after a few months?

Not for alexa itself. Maybe it was for a service like prime music?

when I signed up I saw message that I have 30days amazon prime free after than I pay. is that for music?

in Alexa skills...there are many links. are all these free or does one have to pay for some by joining Amazon Prime or those individual sites?

still bit confusing using Alexa but am slowly learning a few more things.

Depending on the country you live in, amazon prime can include things like music, video, storage of photos in the cloud, ebooks, free and fast shipping, special offers on the amazon website, etc. Just click 'try prime' on your amazon website and see.

Most of the skills you can add are free. Some require a paid subscription (like Spotify) or require specific hardware (like Philips Hue lights).
Just try a few  ;)
