Amazon is working on ways to reduce the reliance on power cords through a chip that’s optimised for lower power consumption.

interesting... I don't move my echo devices but just curious where people are taking theirs.

I wish I knew why Amazon won't update the Tap to have full Echo capabilities.

I'm guessing it doesn't have enough RAM to hold all the necessary software bits.

I'm guessing that Amazon doesn't really want to do much with the Tap. Even on Amazon's website when they promote Echo devices (sales, discounts, buy 2 save $x) the Tap is usually left out. Amazon does a pretty good job at not mentioning it. I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon stopped selling the Tap altogether one day.
