Amazon Echo 2nd gen bottom port
« on: July 30, 2018, 03:47:07 pm »
Hi everyone!

I just got my 2nd generation Echo! I took out the case just to see what it looked like. I saw this little rubber cover at the bottom. Out of curiosity, I removed it and discovered a port:

Does anyone know what it is for?

Thanks!

Looks like a connection port for a battery base for portable use.

I believe it's for Amazon's proprietary use to either update the firmware or reprogram it in some way.
The FireTV Stick remote has similar contact pads on the side of the remote or inside the battery compartment.

It could be a diagnostic port.  I have something very similar on a tv that is for diagnostic, programing or whatever.  Not for home use.   there are several teardown videos on youtube that may be able to tell you.
