Conflicting information, can the Fire HD work as intercom/announcement/dropin?

I read a press release from July indicating the Fire was now able to work like any echo device as intercom system.  But in reading reviews for the new Show Mode dock, many people claim the feature does not work.  Maybe they have older devices, but before buying a few to put around the house, wanted to confirm people are successfully using their Fires as intercom?

I think only the Fire HD versions can do it. The cheaper Fire 7 and Fire 8 have a limited Alexa interface.

I have 2 - 7's,  1 - 8" and one HD10 inch... the 7's and 8's do not work the same as the show, but the 10 does for me. My 8 is an 8 (not HD... they release the HD8 tomorrow, and they're supposed to work like the HD10), my 10 is an HD10, the 7's are just plain ol' 7's, no HD. I actually DO use the 8 as a doorbell camera display though, so my in-laws use it for security. so there is some video capability, but not as a complete replacement for a SHOW.

in looking at the Show Dock, it says (Fire tablets currently do not support incoming Drop In requests or Announcements

I know the HD 10 is hands free Alexa, but I want to do intercom/announcements, and it doesn't appear that is an option yet?   Can you do drop-in or announcements on your HD 10?

I plan to have some Shows around the house, but for bedrooms it would be nice to have something on the wall, an HD 10 would be better since Shows don't really work on the wall.  Wish they made a clean, in-wall, always-on device!

I see where I missed it then...I was only using it as an outgoing and it did do that when tested. I didn't;t realize it could work only one direction... Good to know.
