Alexa routines "smart devices"

Helloo!

If i am creating alexa routine, in "when this happens" selection I can choose between: voice, schedule, smart home devices,  arrive or leave and echo button.
If I choose smart home devices, it says " we were unable to find any supported devices".

So here is the question: which devices are supported then? 
I have some plugs, switches and lamps...

I'm guessing that plugs and switches are not supported as trigger events. Perhaps sensors are the smart devices that can be used as trigger.

I would think Motion Sensors and Cameras might be the devices referred to as well.. Such as a Ring Camera Doorbell set-up or one of a couple of other devices similar.

I just tested it, here's what I learned.

I have a whole slew of smart switches (GE z-wave passed through by SmartThings) and a kwikset smart lock (also z-wave)

Alexa knows all of these and I can issue voice commands to them except the lock because Amazon is paranoid about those.

I went to add a new routine and chose When This HAppens, and then Device
What it listed was just my smart lock.

So in short, only certain devices qualify to be used for Routines as triggers.  Switches don't qualify.  Smart locks do.  I don't have sensors, or anything else funky to test with.

So basically, you can set up a routine initiated by action from the Smart lock? Is that correct?

Like if the lock is unlocked by a code or locked by a code or other means, it would trigger a light in a back bedroom or some other such outcome? That'd be pretty cool to have a message sent you if the door was unlocked baby someone, especially if you didn't;t give out a code to anyone lately...

The Ring Video Doorbell is supported but only when it detects motion. At the moment you can't set a routine for when someone actually presses the doorbell which I find a bit odd.
Good job Alexa now supports announcements for the doorbells.

Yep.  If the door unlocks you can make Alexa say:
Life is a journey
Time is a river
The door is ajar.
