sometimes you just have to laugh at nature - birds especially.  I have a small patio setup.  Two chairs and a table.  One chair needs to be re-sling so it cannot be sat in.   There are always birds on the patio in the mornings.  The other day I decided to sit outside and noticed the chair was covered with bird droppings.  Looked over at the chair with the torn sling, and not one single bird dropping...  I swear they did it on purpose.

When barn swallows want to make a mud nest above the front door , etc.  I put a little stuffed animal there, and the birds get pissed off and cuss at it, but they eventually leave and go to my neighbors to make their mess.  Try that.
