Can I do voice commands into my iphone to execute Alexa commands,

I want to speak directly into my phone (when I'm not near my echo dot) to have Alexa execute a command, such as "Alexa, turn on the x lights".  Is this possible and how please?

yep, just open the alexa app and tap the circle at the bottom, then give a command.
