Echo 5

Got a new echo show 5. Got it hooked to WiFi ok. Downloaded Alexa app. Scanned a new Amazon plug. It connected and got message to ask Alexa to turn on. Will not. Alexa asks did you mean T V. I told Alexa to find new device and she could not. Can anyone help me to get echo show to access new plug.

what are you trying to turn on with the amazon plug?   is it the only device you have?

does both the show 5 and the plug appear in devices within the app?   to verify the show is working, are you able to ask alexa the weather and it tells you?  do you have the lamp switch in the on position?

In app it shows Alexa on my phone but no echo show. It shows the plug and I can ask weather music etc.

Your phone is only needed to set up your devices. You do not need to use the phone or even have it around the house to speak to Alexa.  Since you said your phone responds to Alexa, it sounds like you set up the plug (what brand?) but did not setup the Echo Show 5.
