Ring doorbell with Alexa -- separate audio and video devices
« on: December 29, 2021, 01:09:13 pm »
I have a Ring Doorbell (wired), an Amazon Echo (next to the armchair) and a TV with an Amazon Firestick. I would like to have the doorbell video on the TV (Firestick) but talk to the visitor via the Echo device. Can audio and video be split in that way?

I had no trouble getting the picture on the TV; the sound also plays on the TV and it gives a notice that the microphone is disabled (presumably because the TV does not have one).

Can I tell Alexa that I want the sound on one device (Echo) and the picture on another (Firestick)?

should not be a problem as long as the echo device is linked to the ring doorbell.    If when the doorbell is pressed, and the echo device says someone is at the door, then it is linked.   If not, go to the alexa app, find the ring doorbell under devices and make sure echo device is selected.

Well it IS linked, along with two others and the Firestick. However the app seems to prefer the Firestick, so I get video and sound but no microphone. If I unlink the Firestick I get no video ... so the qeustion is unanswered: how do I tell the app to route the video to the Firestick but make the announcement and the intercom operate from the Echo?
