Making calls

Hi all! Recently ordered an Amazon Show 5 and the dot (waiting for it to arrive), switching out from the Google Home.  I have a question about calling from/to Alexa.  Can you make calls to other people with Alexa without cellphones? My Google home right now can call out, but it still goes through my cellphone (as in if I leave home with my phone, my senior parents can't use it for calls). I read online that Alexa is supossed to be able to make/recieve calls WITHOUT the use of cell phones, but I'm not actually getting any info beyond this.  Any help?

Alexa can call a phone number (cell or not). Alexa can also connect to other Alexa enabled devices. If the person you are calling is also using a Show device, it would be a video call. If it's not a Show device, then it would just be an audio call.

All you needed was a phone number.   I used google voice for a while for my echo calls because I did not want to give them my cell number but, there were changes last year where you can only call up to 10 people in your contact list and it is only echo to echo calls. 

Things changed last year where if you want to call numbers, you had to link your phone account to alexa.   I don't know about your neck of the woods but go to your alexa app under communications and see if there are any phone carriers in your area that you can link to if you want to go that route.

Also if you have a skype account, you could use it for phone calls using alexa.   I believe if you have a skype number, you can use it.
