Amazon Ring Car Cam
« on: January 07, 2023, 11:43:34 pm »
I wonder why Amazon didn't reveal this during their yearly product announcements in September.
Anyway, the Ring Car Cam is ready for pre-order. --> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LZFPQNV
It's $199.99 (will be $249.99 after 1/31/2023). Cloud services is $60/year.

It appears to be what Ring door bell does. That is, it records when it detects motion. Since it's hooked up to the ODB II port it is powered all the time, regardless of whether your car is running or not. It does not appear to be a dashcam as far as I can tell. The product description does not say anything about recording accidents or other events while driving unless you ask it to record. And you when you ask it to record, it only records for the next 20 minutes. So in a way, this is exactly like the Ring doorbell. It does not record continuously.

I looked at it when I first read about it the other day.  I think if I get a car cam, I will save about 150 bucks and get one from Walmart.   I am not too concerned about security.
