Just wondering if anyone else here has one of these little items.  https://www.amazon.com/Garadget-Smart-Garage-Door-Controller/dp/B01KUZ2JPS

I'm extremely happy with mine.  They are very easy to install and they just work.  I've been using IFTTT to use it with my Echo and it works great.  I've also added a trigger to open the garage door when I'm within a couple blocks of my home.  I also have it set up to close automatically at a designated time at night should I forget to close the door before I go to bed.  The developer is VERY responsive to questions and open to suggestions.

Can you setup geofencing with this device?
When you say that it opens automatically when you are a couple of blocks away, is that limited to when you are in a car. I am wondering if it will keep opening the door if I am just walking past the front of the house?

Anyone here using other solutions for Echo integrated garage door openers? Would love to hear ideas as I am thinking of venturing into the garage now that I have been able to make the lights, home theater system and thermostat 'smart' in the house!

I was looking at this garageio which seems to indicate direct echo integration and IFTTT based geofencing. Any advice or feedback about your experiences?

This can be done via IFTTT recipe. Please find the instructions here: http://community.garadget.com/t/using-garadget-in-ifttts-recipes/440

Both products support IFTTT integration making geofencing setup possible.

Garageio pros: More cost efficient if you have 3 doors
Garadget pros: More cost efficient if you have 1-2 doors, no sensor wiring, open source/hardware, creator participates in online communities ;)

I use an Iris Garage controller (w/ SmartThings hub).  I use Tasker for geofencing because it gives me more variables.  For redundancy, I have both a geofence & cell tower variable.  So I have a Tasker profile set up to open my garage when I enter (my cell phone actually) the geofence area & I'm near the specified cell tower.  Tasker will only run the command to open the garage one time when I hit those two variables.  Depending on how large of a geofence you have, you would have to leave a pretty large area in order for Tasker to run the profile again.

Having said that, I took away the automatically opening the garage part because my phone rebooted after an update.  Tasker then recognized that I entered the geofence & I'm near the cell tower and automatically opened my garage door.  Instead, I now have a popup window with a button (along with a voice telling me to "press the button") that I can press to open the garage.

Hey,
I am completely new to technology/echo/Garadget. I purchased both and I am wondering if someone can tell me how to program Garadget into the Alexa skills.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Right now, there is no publicly available Alexa skill for Garadget. There are several hobbyists who have made test/private skills for their own use. You might want to check the Garadget community forums to see if anyone has one that they can share with you. ==> http://community.garadget.com/

I tried following the IFTTT recipe and creating one, however, it was a little too difficult to follow and understand. Thank you for sharing though, I'm sure that helps a lot for people who understand technology (unlike me) haha.
If there is any simpler instructions, please share. thanks!

Garadget's native IFTTT channel will be available soon. Here's he link to the Alexa applets (open, close). The channel preview invitation can be found here.

Native Alexa skill is also in the works, please stay tuned.

Are you Denis from Garadget? If you are, welcome to the forums.
A few members, including myself, have written custom Alexa Skills to do various things with Garadget.
For me, I made a skill that will tell me the current status of my garage door. For example, "Alexa, Garage status."
The reply would be "The garage door has been closed for 8 hours." This way, I can make sure that the garage door is closed when I'm lying down in bed or when I'm lounging around.
I've also thought about making it so that I can open & close the garage door by voice. But that's kind of a security risk.

Yep, that's me. :D
BTW: I completed and recently published the official Alexa skill for Garadget as well as dedicated IFTTT service for Garadget with more than 60 applets.

If you interested the repo for the skill is at github.

Check them out!
