I have been using Alexa in Cape Town for some time now.
Very happy but for the time zone issues as I was forced to use a US account.
Considering getting a UK or German account to establish a time zone much closer to home.
However, before I do that my I ask the UK users if I would still be able to select the American voice and spelling?

I don't see anything on my UK Echo app that would allow that. There may be a hack of some sort of course.

The American voice is still available to uk users its under settings option. I just tested it and American spelling is spoken.

Amazon should get the time zone problem resolved fast. Google is snapping at their heels.

What would the problem be if they allow any time zone with the caveat that local information will not be complete?

Doesn't seem to be on mine, where did you find it? I don't want the American voice but I'd like to know where options like that might be lurking

Yep. I found it under settings, first option-- "Chris's Echo"
The language option is right there.

Aha - yes! It's buried a bit but there it is. Now I can ignore it instead of wondering why I don't have it

Is that just the voice, or the region as well?

Its just the voice, doesn't affect the region. There is no easy way to change the region
