It may not be entirely his wife's fault. When I ask Alexa (using Amazon Music Unlimited) to "play Tony Bennett," "play Nat King Cole," and "play Bing Crosby," Alexa responds that it is "shuffling songs by ______" and then plays a Christmas song first for all three. Amazon may be weighting its selections in favor of songs it considers seasonally appropriate. Or maybe it's weighting toward the most popular songs, and I'd get the same results at any time of the year. In any event, it seems likely that some kind of weighting is going on, and "shuffle" is not purely random. I should experiment with some other performers who have a Christmas album.
