How come my echo combines shopping and to-do lists?

My wife and I have set up separate profiles, but the echo keeps combining our to-do and shopping lists.  Is there some way to keep these separate?

Try this.  Say "Alexa, Shopping List" she will respond.  "What do you want me to add?"  Tell her what you want added.

Do the same for the To Do List "Alexa, To Do List"  she will respond "What shall I add?"   Then you tell her what to add.

Sorry, I didn't write my question clearly.  What I meant to ask is why can't I get Alexa to keep track of my shopping list, and another one for my wife, and one to-do list for me, and a separate to-do list for her?  In other words, why can't we have our own "his and her" shopping list, and a his and her to-do list?

1 Echo will only recognize 1 To Do List and 1 Shopping List.  If you had 2 Echo's then you could have 2 To do lists and 2 shopping lists.  A his and her echo would be nice.     To avoid confusion you can have different wake words one set for "Alexa" and the other "Amazon"
