My HA gear is Insteon, so I use an Insteon IR Linc transmitter to control anything controlled by an IR remote using the Echo or any Insteon keypad.

I'm thinking about going with Anyhome + Echo would that work? How about an IR blaster for a desktop computer, having Echo to turn on my computer on and or off?

I created a skill for the Global Cache IP2IR and made a companion website that allows you to control the activities. You need to port forward and learn your remote buttons but the end result is nice. Here is a video demo:
