constant drops when using Prime Music
« on: December 23, 2017, 12:36:48 pm »
Does anyone else experience this?

I've got an Echo Dot connected to a TV soundbar via Bluetooth.  Distance from dot to speaker is about 15'.  Whenever I use Prime Music for playback (which is my preferred default since it's the only ad free music source I have) I experience constant pauses  in playback.  My first thought was that the WiFi or bluetooth signal was dropping, but I never get notification of this via the device.  The song will play for a bit and then will pause for 2 or 3 seconds and start back where it left off.  Sometimes I get up to 10 pauses per song and other times it'll play for hours without issue (it usually happens at least once per song though)  This has happened as long as I've had the Dot.

If I swap to my free Pandora account it plays flawlessly as long as I leave it on, so it's definitely not a wireless or signal issue.  I've also tested by placing the Dot inches away from the speaker and it does the same thing.  The only constant I can find is Prime Music.

Anyone else notice this and if so is there any fix for it?

15 ft is pushing the limits of Bluetooth. You really shouldn't be more than a few feet away. Bluetooth is known as a PAN (personal area network). That essentially means any connected device should be within arms reach.

if it is just prime music that is having the problem, then there may not be much you can do.  sounds like the problem is on their end.

what about when playing on the dot itself?

signal drop was my initial thought, but it's definitely not that.  no issue using other services plus the speaker I use makes a sound when a device connects/disconnects....it doesn't do that during these pauses, just stops playing for a few seconds.

It does the same when using the built in speaker as well.  It does seem to be tied to Prime Music, but I can't believe I'd be the only one that has the issue if so.

I'm having the opposite problem. For the last week my Google Home devices have been cutting in and out while playing Google play music. Amazon Prime music on my dots aren't missing a beat.  I'm having to listen to Christmas music on a Dot instead of my Google Homes  >:(

Huh....doesn't look like there's an evident answer to this then.

Worth a shot though and thanks for the suggestions.

I actually read a fix for this. I don't know if I commented on the thread itself but in my mind, that it should be sticky coz I believe that's the permanent solution for this prime music problem. Sorry I forgot the answer but you could do a search here. Hope you find it.
