Wifi refuses connections when Echo is connected

The Echo and the Dots work fine. But when they are connected the Wifi will start refusing connections and we can't print or use our phones. It isn't a bandwidth issue or the number of devices connected.  Any thoughts?

You connect the echo devices to your own preexisting wifi network, from your own router, right? That should work fine.
If however you are connecting your phones to the wifi that the echo devices emit, you get the symptoms you describe.
