Echo Dot 3rd generation problems

I don't know if anyone else has run across this but....

I purchased 2 3rd generation dots a while back and I do love the improvements.
However.....
The 3rd gen's seem to get flaky every now and then with drop outs...slow response etc.
They also tend to get very warm (as compared to 2nd gen) while operating.

Are these common problems?

how far from router?  distance could cause the problems you are having.    also try a power cycle on them,  unplug them for several minutes then plug back in.
