Grouping bulbs

I have discovered an issue relating to multiple bulbs using the same name.
I thought if they were named the same they would both respond to a voice command simultaneously. However they do not. Grouping them is a part solution, that works for voice command, but not when setting up a timed function. In that scenario you can only set a group to turn on or off, light level or colour cannot be set. I would like to know if anyone else has come across this ?

A good way to confuse a home automation setup is to name things the same...
Don't do that.

Since you give no indication of which lights you have and if you have the corresponding hub or echo plus or what, here's mine: I have philips hue/osram/INNR lights + hue bridge, these are grouped by room in the hue app and those groups carry over to alexa. Plus I made some other groups in alexa. All these groups work fine.

you can name them overhead one, overhead two and so on.  just be sure to spell out the numbers and it is best to only use them in groups/routines.  alexa could still get confused if you try to use them individually
