Guard: how random is the lights?

When guard is turned on, how random are the lights, how long are they on, how many are one at once and do they only randomly turn on/off at night? Any answers to these questions are appreciated.

random is random, there is no way to answer your question.

According to Amazon, Guard learns from your normal usage behavior. So if you normally turn on your living room light at 9pm and turn it off at 11pm, Guard will tend to do the same thing. But if all of your lights are normally off at 3am, Guard will probably just turn on/off some random lights.
