my alexa echo dot is not speaking

Hi! I bought my Alexa echo dot yesterday and plugged it in at night and it worked just fine. It was able to control the light I was gifted and it played some Spotify. I think I fell asleep before I was able to turn it off. I woke up today and said "Alexa play gorgeous by Taylor swift", just for her to light up, and then ignore me. I thought she just didn't hear me but when I said more commands, she didn't respond, only light up. However, she can turn on/off the lights when I ask her, but she doesn't speak. Please help me since I'm not from the US and I can't return it.

Try pulling the power plug, wait 40 seconds then plug back in.   If you started using it immediately after setting it up, it did not have a chance to update and depending how long it was sitting on the shelf  could take time to be found by amazon and updated.  It could have finished updated and just need a power cycle.
