Garadget garage door opener
« on: November 04, 2016, 09:25:33 pm »
I just got my Garadget today. It was $89 at Amazon --> https://www.amazon.com/Garadget-Smart-Garage-Door-Controller/dp/B01KUZ2JPS

It was quite easy to install. Setting it up is similar to setting up a Wemo or an Echo. Just connect to the Garadget wifi, then back to the app to enter the wifi password.

Hooking it up involved mounting the unit on the garage ceiling, connecting two wires to the garage door opener's wired button, aiming the laser pointer at the garage door, and putting a reflective decal where the laser beam shines on the garage door.

I'll probably make a short video demonstrating how it works later on.

I fully agree.  I've had mine about 3 months and the installation was a breeze.  I have it set up to open/close through IFTTT.  Works great!  The developer is readily accessible and can help with ANY problems through the Garadget forum.

I was working on an Alexa skill for the Garadget today. I decided not to use it to open/close the garage by voice. Someone could be shouting to Alexa from outside the house and gain access to the garage.

Instead, I made a skill to get the current status of the garage door. So when I say "Alexa, ask garage status" she'll reply with "The garage door is closed" or "The garage door is open."  It cannot be published because it relies on the Device ID and Access Token that can only be retrieved by using Chrome and looking through the network activities as you login.

You could copy it, X-out the device ID and access token, and then share it.... just sayin' :)
